The Temple Of God Overcoming Challenges

We are the Temple of God

IN GOD’S PRESENCE WE CAN
OVERCOME THE CHALLENGES OF OUR LIVES
Psalms 27:4-5
4 One [thing] have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple. 5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock. KJV

INTRODUCTION

House -

The structures in which people lived in Bible times. The word translated as house appears often in the Bible. It is used of any dwelling place, whether the hut of a peasant or tent.
Temple -
1.    Heb. term for temple is hekal, an old Akkad. word signifying "palace, a large building," frequently joined with Jehovah, and denoting "the palace of deity.
2.    Occasionally it is also qualified by qodesh ("sanctuary"), to designate its sacredness.
3.    Sometimes the simpler phrase "house of Jehovah" (Heb. beth yhwh).

TABERNACLE - the tent which served as a place of worship for the nation of Israel during their early history.
IN THE OLD TESTAMENT THE TABERNACLE AND THE TEMPLE REPRESENT JESUS CHRIST SYMBOLICALLY AND IT WAS THE PLACE WHERE GOD LIVED

ROCK - The word rock is often used figuratively in the Bible to speak of God and Christ
  • As Rock, God is the Creator  (Deut. 32:18) -18 Of the Rock [that] begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee. KJV
  • His people's strength (Deut. 32:4), 4 [He is] the Rock, his work [is] perfect: for all his ways [are] judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right [is] he. KJV
  • His people's defense and refuge (Ps. 31:2-3; 94:22) - 2 Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defense to save me. 3 For thou [art] my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me. KJV
  • His people's salvation (Ps. 89:26) -26 He shall cry unto me, Thou [art] my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation. - KJV
  • In the New Testament, Christ is the Rock from whom the Spirit of life flows (John 4:13-14) 13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. KJV
  •  The foundation of the church (Matt. 16:18) - 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. KJV and its cornerstone (Eph. 2:20) 20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner [stone]; KJV.
THE PLACE WHERE GOD LIVED   (His Presence)
David understood the importance of being in the house of someone that will love, protect and take care of you.
In the natural when you go to someone’s house you expect the following things to happen:

  • The people to be there (their presence)
  • To fellowship with them while you are there
  • You expected to be protected by the host if needed. They have a plan in case of fire, storm etc.
  • You know the purpose of your being there by invitation or request
  • You usually know the attitude of the person you are visiting because of your relationship with them.
  • You also know that under normal circumstances the person is not going to change their mind about your being welcome after they extend an invitation.
David also knew some things about God because of His relationship with God:

The Presence of God -- Psalm 16:11 - 11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence [is] fulness of joy; at thy right hand [there are] pleasures for evermore. KJV (The Presence of God – The anointing the endowment of the Holy Spirit)
  • Thy presence if fullness of Joy
  • At Thy right hand there are pleasures forever more
The Fellowship of God -  David that if he fellowship with God He would be able to be fruitful and have good success.  On many Occasions He asked God questions and got answers.  1 Joh 1:3- 3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship [is] with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. - KJV

Fellowship with God is essential for fruitfulness.  John 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. KJV

The Protection of God – Jer. 36:26 Shelter and protection - 26 But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet: but the LORD hid them. (KJV)
The Strength of God – Psalm 50:1  God ruler ship is supreme – No one is greater in strength than God

The nature of God Num 23:19-20 –19 God [is] not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do [it]? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? 20 Behold, I have received [commandment] to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it. KJV God is Immutable (unchanging) and Impartial.

The perfections of God – His Beauty
  • His Holiness Ps 110:3 - 3 Thy people [shall be] willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth. KJV
  • His Goodness – Zach. 9:17 - 17 For how great [is] his goodness, and how great [is] his beauty! corn shall make the young men cheerful, and new wine the maids. KJV
David desired to stay in the presence of God not just because God was a good friend --- He was after God’s heart.
  • He did not want to sin
  • He did not want to be out of the will of God
  • He did not want to be overrun by his enemies
  • He wanted to enjoy the eternal goodness of God
  • He wanted to be able to ask questions and Get answers
  • He wanted God’s Protection. He knew that trouble would come because He was well acquainted with trouble. Therefore when trouble came He wanted protection.
DAVID WANTED TO BE WITH GO ALL THE TIME

APPLICATION:
If we are saved we know that God is with us all the time but are we in His presence.  Our bodies are the temples of God. 1 Cor 3:16 16  Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? KJV

We may if we choose take our temple anywhere and do anything. Some of these places and actions will inhibit the anointing of God.
The anointing is what we want to be in operation as much as possible.
David wanted to live for God.
David did not continue to repeat his sins.

He repented for real. It was not an apology to God, he turned from what he was doing and to what God was telling him to do.

But He knew that the only way to make that real in his life was to stay in the house of the Lord and inquire of Him.

DAVID DISCOVERED WHAT HE NEEDED TO DO TO OVERCOME ANY CHALLENGE OF HIS LIFE

-----WE CAN DO THE SAME -------
We are the temple of the Lord  -  1 Cor 3:16 16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

We can inquire anytime we want or need to do so
If we desire to run hard after God’s heart David had the answer
1.     What did David do First?  Desire from the Lord and actively Seek to remain in His Presence
while here on earth and eternally.

2.    Why did David do what He did
  • To Behold His Beauty
  • To Inquire Of Him
  •  Because He is my protection
  •  He will Hide me in the Secret of His Tabernacle
The Importance of the place where God lives:
  •  His presence
  •  His council
  •  His strength
  •  His will
  •  His peace
THE BOTTOM LINE ----FOR GOD’S TEMPLES IS TO STAY IN THE ENVIRONMENTS THAT ENABLES THE HOLY SPIRIT TO OPERATE
 IF YOU DO:
1.    You can enjoy the rest of God (peace) then you can get more of the rest (what God has for you)
2.    WHY:  You desire the ability to be able to withstand the challenges in your life.
  • Seek and Receive God’s Council
  • Strengthen myself for what ever come my way good or evil
  • Stay in God’s will (not my will but His will be done)
  • Rest in His peace (no matter what)
3.    Experience the Victory that God has already provided
  • Behold His Beauty (righteousness and goodness).
  • Ask questions so as to make the right decision
  •  Receive His protection in times of trouble
Eph 2:20-22 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: 22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. KJV
